The Uveitis Section of the DOG is honouring Professor James T. Rosenbaum (Portland/USA) with the von-Szily Medal for his services on 25 September 2014. In his von-Szily lecture, James Rosenbaum will consider the question of whether the microbiome might trigger uveitis.
There’s a lot going on in glaucoma surgery – Professor Franz Grehn will provide an overview of new operational trends in his keynote lecture on Thursday, 25th September 2014. The Würzburg expert will show why this area of ophthalmology has developed increasingly towards personalized medicine.
With this convention, the DOG will change the format of their Awards Ceremony: Instead of the presentation of the eulogies, the authors of the award-winning work will themselves now introduce their results. This will emphasize the academic performance of the winners.
Every two years the Retina Society awards the Custodis Lecture to a renowned researcher in honor of his life’s work with which he has made an outstanding contribution to matters relating to retinal diseases. This year’s Custodis Lecture will be awarded to Associate Professor Dr. Klaus-Dieter Lemmen, Senior Consultant at St. Martinus Hospital in Düsseldorf.
This year too, outstanding ophthalmological experts will hold Keynote Lectures providing comprehensive presentation of up-to-the-minute topics.

(in German language) The new educational format “DOG-Update – State of the Art” was very well received in 2013. In 2014, too, proven experts will present the most important publications of the past year in the various subspecialties of ophthalmology on Saturday and Sunday morning in twelve forty-five-minute sessions.
The new layout of our poster sessions in the last years was greatly approved. Thus, also in 2014 a very important focus will be on the poster sessions. The poster sessions will take place from Thursday to Saturday immediately after the lunch break and without competition from other simultaneous events.
As a tradition, ophthalmologists from Middle Eastern European and Eastern European countries are very welcome to participate in the congress and may attend free of charge.
(in German language) In interactive videos experienced surgeons show interesting and complex procedures in retina, cataract- and refractive surgery. The procedures will be presented and explained by the experts. The auditorium can actively take part via a TED voting system. Moreover, there is the possibility to pose questions and discuss with the experts.

In the format “Discourse and dialogue – DOG Kontrovers” experts each put forward views for and against topical issues in ophthalmology. This open discourse and the subsequent discussion provides a differentiated insight into the relevant issues.

In times of diminishing public resources, the acquisition of third-party funding is becoming more and more important.
Young ophthalmologists have the occasion to meet established university professors and discuss career plans. The confidential talks take place over a small bite to eat in a discreet context at the venue. A separate registration is required.
During the Social Evening various ophthalmological „curiosities“ will be auctioned.
