Keynote Lecture on Saturday: The Future of Cataract

For over two decades Professor Rupert Menapace has been engaged in optimizing incision techniques in cataract. On 27 September the Viennese expert is to hold a keynote lecture on “Cataract Surgery and Femtosecond Laser: What can it achieve and will it prevail?”

The femtosecond laser has significantly expanded the spectrum of cataract surgery in recent times. Is it really the new “super weapon” in the fight against cataract as some users maintain? Professor Rupert Menapace, who founded a specialist outpatient unit and task force for artificial lens implantation in 1991, has to date been primarily engaged with the further development of modern techniques and implants for cataract surgery. The Viennese ophthalmologist will pursue the currently often discussed question of how the femtosecond laser stands in comparison to surgical incision techniques.
